Building virtual worlds such as digital twins of factories, warehouses, or city streets is an extremely involved and technical process for today’s technical artists and can take months to complete. NeRFs (Neural Radiance Fields) can accelerate this process by scanning the real world into our virtual worlds, and we can further speed things up by employing Generative AI techniques to create objects and materials from scratch. Join this session to see some of NVIDIA’s latest work in Generative AI and NeRFs for building virtual worlds in NVIDIA Omniverse.

We'll explore the role of physical spaces and objects in metaverse creation. Using 3D scanning technologies, one can easily create an editable digital twin of any space, person, or object. With NVIDIA’s Omniverse tools, especially Audio2Face, it’s possible to animate custom avatars with their own voices and intelligence. We'll share the technical and creative process developed for the speculative sci-fi world we call Little Martians, which combines language models, text-to-speech, 3D scanning, 3D animation, and custom AI image generation.

To learn more about the art and technology featured in this session, please visit the NVIDIA AI Art Gallery.

With NVIDIA Omniverse and NVIDIA RTX technology, artists from Versatile Media were able to accelerate their virtual production pipeline and produce a sci-fi short film, "New Air," entirely in an LED volume in only four days using three physical props, with real-time compositing and no visual effects (VFX) added in post-production. It's remarkable that the film won the Best VFX Narrative Short Film in the 2022 Spark Animation Festival. NVIDIA Omniverse was used to connect Maya, Unreal Engine, and Omniverse Create, replacing linear pipelines with live-sync creation. Changes and improvements in model, texture, and sets could be synced in real time in UE. The asset preparation workflow was greatly enhanced through the USD file format. Omniverse's lighting system also played an important role. Using RTX-powered rendering and real-time ray and path tracing in Omniverse, the artists could render photorealistic and physically accurate 3D content in real time.

Virtual and augmented reality (jointly “extended reality,” or XR) have taken hold across nearly every 3D industry, from virtual production to surgical planning, from architectural modeling to remote assistance, from factory-line training to immersive gaming. But how does XR technology actually work? What challenges remain to be solved? And how does the metaverse fit into all of this? We’ll discuss some of the leading use cases of XR; we’ll survey today’s VR and AR devices, how developers build for them, and how streaming is changing everything; and we’ll explore how XR is poised to make its next great leap forward with artificial intelligence.

As with most industries, time is money! When time (and therefore money) is tight, creative flexibility can be the first thing that suffers. If you’re spending your time wrangling your previz and production pipeline, migrating from one tool to another can have a big cost impact. We explore how to streamline processes but also open new, enhanced workflows to increase productivity and creativity.

Science and modeling/simulation are inherently creative processes. And artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to assist humans in effective and creative knowledge discovery (and already does). AI has the capacity to educate and augment humans, and make them better at their jobs and activities, including carrying out more effective scientific discovery. We'll explore the current state of knowledge discovery, as well as scientific and creative methods in the context of AI use. We'll highlight and show examples of how generative methods, AI-driven modeling, and simulation techniques can generate new theories, uncover new knowledge, or create art. Last but not the least, we'll summarize how AI systems should be used responsibly and be aligned to cultural conventions that underline interactions with humans, including communication aspects.
