Nvidia Shield TV

After a short adventure with the Mi Box S, purchased the Shield TV. What a relief. Super fast installation, well up to date. Controls intuitive, quickly switches between apps. Picture quality is fantastic (we don't have a 4K TV though). Good experience with NLZiet/NPO/Netflix, runs without lagging. Tells you nicely if the ethernet connection drops (which we had due to a router failure). The cabinet is nice and small so it can be hidden. The remote feels good in the hand and buttons light up! However, it is easy to accidentally press the Netflix button. Shield is easy to connect to your TV, so it switches on and you can turn the TV up/down instead of Android TV. Casting from apple/android works well and especially fast. Nice gimmic is "find remote", this one gets lost quite often :)

After 2 years of having had a Shield to my full satisfaction, I was still unable to get Dolby Atmos via Netflix. too many demands in the form of: LG TV, LG soundbar, etc. But now! with the New Shield... Finally the Atmos logo visible on the movies that support it.

The NVIDIA Shield TV is the ultimate media player for me. The device is quick and extremely easy to install. Just connect the power cable and HDMI cable and the device will start up automatically. Just follow the few steps on your TV screen and you can get started.

The shield TV has a very clear and user-friendly interface. That is based on android tv. Scrolling through the interface is very fast. There are already a small handful of apps installed for it such as youtube, Netflix, Amazon prime video, Goolge play movies, Amazon music and plex etc. For the gamers among us there is access to the google play store, Google play games, but there is also online gaming possible via nvidia games.

This little powerhouse can play all kinds of media from movies up to 4k (2160p) up to 60 fps with HDR or Dolby vision. This Shiled TV can also decode all sound tracks, otherwise send it to an AV amplifier via pass-through. We are talking about Dolby digital, Dolby digital plus up to and including Dolby TRueHD with Atmos. Let's not forget DTS through DTS HD master, and DTS x. The apps on this player start up very quickly.

There are plenty of other apps to install from the Google play store. It comes with a nice compact remote control with clear buttons that light up when the remote control is moved. There is a voice control button on the remote. Via this button you can find media on any app very quickly.

After measuring the power consumption with my TP-link smart switch. It turns out that this shield TV consumes a maximum of 1.7 watts in standby. While using the device, it consumes between 3.5 and 4 watts. When playing 4k media up to 5 watts. With the Ai enhanced function enabled, the player can flawlessly upscale 1080p media to 4k with the end result being a nice sharp and detailed image.

Via the google assistant (voice control) you can pause the device, start it up and let it go to standby. And finally, nvidia itself will receive years of software updates. This player is an absolute must for anyone who likes easy-to-use devices but can do everything with it.
